Title: Emancipation Proclamation
TSW: Examine the cause and effects of the Emancipation Proclamation on the outcome of the Civil War.
Essential Question: How did the Emancipation Proclamation change the course of the war?
- Read the article Emancipation Proclamation and complete the accompanying Text Dependent Questions (TDQs) and attach to p. 86 of your ISN.
- Left side (p. 83) Divide your page in two, create the front page of a newspaper one from the Northern perspective and one from the Southern perspective on the Emancipation Proclamation. Include a 4-5 sentence summary of the EQ (summaries may appear as articles in your newspapers).
Title: Battles of the Civil War
TSW: Describe the outcome and significance of key battles of the Civil War.
Essential Question: How did the outcome of key battles like Antietam, Gettysburg, and Vicksburg affect the outcome of the war?
- Read Chapter 11 of your textbook The Americans and complete the accompanying Civil War Battles chart (linked below). Attach to p. 84 of your ISN. (also see the PowerPoint linked below for key information about the battles)
- Left side (p. 83): Create an acrostic using the words "Civil War" as the central word. Included a 4-5 sentence summary of the EQ listed above.

Title: States Divide for war
TSW: Identify and locate the states that were part of the Confederacy and those that remained loyal to the Union including the Border States.
Essential Question: Why did the some of the Southern states choose to secede from Union while others remained loyal to the Union even though they retained their slaves?
