September 20, 2013 - Video: America the Story of US - Revolution. Watch the video and answer the following accompanying questions (located below) and attach to p. 40 of your ISN. Complete a student choice side activity on p. 39 including a 4-5 sentence paragraph answering the summary questions below.

September 19, 2013 - Notes (American Revolution) and discussion on the Declaration of Independence as well as a short video of the reading of the Declaration of Independence (linked below). After viewing the video and reading the Declaration, complete the accompanying questions (linked below) on p. 38 of your ISN. Create a visual circle chart (circle divided into quarters) and illustrate each of the FOUR parts of the Declaration outlined in the notes in one of the quarters on p. 37 of your ISN. Complete a 4-5 sentences summary at the bottom of p. 37 answering the question below.

September 18, 2013 - Notes (American Revolution) and discussion on the early events of the American Revolution including a reading and TDQ's on Thomas Paines' Common Sense (reading and TDQ's linked below). Attach TDQ's to p. 36 of your ISN and create an acrostic using the word INDEPENDENCE as the center word on p. 35. Include a 4-5 sentence summary answering the question below on p. 35 as well.

September 16 and 17, 2013 - Watch and discuss the feature film "April Morning" (available on Netflix) on the Battle of Lexington and Concord.
September 13, 2013 - Read the article on the Sons of Liberty and answer the accompanying TDQs (Text Dependent Questions) and attach both to p.34 of your ISN. Create a 5 W's chart (example below) on p. 33 detailing the key information about the Sons of Liberty and complete a 4-5 sentence answer to the summary question below.

September 12, 2013 - Discuss the cartoon analysis worksheets from 9/11 and the examine the hidden meanings and symbols in the images. Complete the left side activity by writing a diary entry, poem or song reflecting the colonial opinions about 1 of the 2 events.
September 11, 2013 - Political cartoon analysis from the Boston Massacre and the Boston Tea Party. Complete a Political Cartoon Analysis worksheet (linked below) for each of the cartoons "The Boston Massacre" and "Excise Man" (linked below) and attach to p. 32 of your ISN. Choose 1 of the 2 events and write a diary entry, poem, or song on p. 31 describing the event you chose. This should be approximately 1 page long, no summary.

September 10, 2013 - Complete and discuss the flip cause and effect charts from 9/9/2013.
September 9, 2013 - Students will analyze the cause and effect of 12 key events lead to American Independence. Complete and attach the Revolutionary War Cause and Effect Chart on (linked below) p. 30 of your ISN. Create two flip charts of six events each (instructions below) of the key events (from the cause and effect chart) with the definitions of each of the events on p. 29, there is no summary for this activity.

September 5, 2013 - Video: PBS Liberty: Episode 1 Reluctant Revolutionaries. Watch the video and complete the accompanying video notes and attach to p. 28 of your ISN. Video and notes not available online, please see me to schedule a makeup time. Students will create a visual timeline on p. 27 of their ISN illustrating at least 6 events that contributed to the colonial decision to declare independence and answer the summary question below in a 4-5 sentence paragraph.

September 3, 2013 - Viewed the video clip The Thirteen Colonies: Developing Economy and Overseas Trade and read the accompanying article on mercantilism (linked below). Students completed the close reading activity (linked below) on p. 24 of their ISNs. Students are to complete the TDQs (linked below) as homework and then draw a diagram illustrating the system of mercantilism on p. 23 of their ISN and answer the following summary question in a 4-5 sentence paragraph on the bottom of p. 23.

Summary Question: Was the system of mercantilism a benefit or a hindrance to the English colonies? Explain citing evidence from the lesson.

Education Portal The American Revolution Flip Chart InstructionsCreating a flip chart: Fold a piece of paper vertically. Mark off the number of "flaps" you will need and cut the flaps. Write the word on the outside of the flap and the definition on the inside of the flap, thus creating a flip chart of key vocabulary terms.
