Lesson 1:
Title: Video: Over the Edge
TSW: Identify and describe the causes of World War II.
EQ: Describe the differences between the United States and Germany prior to the outbreak of World War II.
Assignment: Watch the video American Century: Over the Edge and answer the accompanying questions. Attach in question in your ISN and complete the left side assignment including a 5-8 sentence paragraph answering the essential Question.
Left Side: Attach the copy of the Janus figure (linked below) in your ISN. Divide the page into two halves, one representing Germany and the other representing the United States. Using the information from the video, illustrate each side with three pictures, three key names, terms, or phrases, and a quote that represents each country prior to the outbreak of war between the nations.

Title: Video: Pearl Harbor: Legacy of Attack
TSW: Explain the causes and effects of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor.
EQ: Why did the Japanese choose to attack the American naval fleet at Pearl Harbor? In what ways can the attack by the Japanese be considered a success or a failure?
Assignment: Watch the video Pearl Harbor Legacy of Attack and answer the accompanying questions. This video is not available on my website, but it is available on Netflix or it may be available for viewing on Youtube in multiple segments (make sure you watch them all!).
Left Side: Attach the blank map of Oahu into your ISN and complete the following activity. Locate and mark each of the following events on your map (Pearl Harbor, USS Arizona, Opana Radar Site, Hickam Airfield, Wheeler Airfield, Ford Island, and the probable location of the USS Ward firing on the Japanese midget submarine). At each site, give the time of significant events and a explain what happened at each location. For example, Opana Radar Site 7:02 am - U.S. radar operators see a large flight of aircraft heading for the Oahu, they are mistaken for a flight of bombers heading in from the mainland when in reality it was the Japanese planes. Decorate your map with additional images, visuals, terms, names, and information related to the attack on Pearl Harbor. Use the websites (linked below) to complete the assignment.

Left Side: Create a visual timeline of events depicting the American response to German aggression in Europe. Your timeline should include 5 events with dates, a picture, and description of the event. Answer the EQ in a 5-8 sentence paragraph at the bottom of the page.
